"So I moved to California but it's just a state of mind It turns out everywhere you go, you take yourself, that's not a lie" Lana Del Rey
I was six and watching Alicia’s Keys playing on grand piano and belting out Empire State of Mind. I was absolutely transfixed. The idea of a place where anything is possible - a limitless expanse of opportunity. Sounded like heaven.
Many things have been New York for me since then because when I pass this next exam or move school or find the next greatest new thing. I’ll be happy and whole and life will be amazing. But that’s not true. Novelty doesn’t bring renewal and it doesn’t mean thing gets better. A change of scenery means you can get a bit of relief from what was wrong in the past but you carry it with you always. One day you’re going to need to stop running from place to place because everywhere you turn you’re going to see yourself. Trust me the best thing you can do is genuinely look at yourself. That’s when you truly find New York. Life becomes limitless the moment you stop putting yourself in that cage.
Stop running because you think you’re going foward but you’re only going round in circles.
